Artist K Ryan Henisey Launches New Online Space for LGBTQIA Taste Makers

Queer Quarterly, a new project from Los Angeles artist and gallery head K Ryan Henisey, launches with calls for LGBTQIA art and content. The e-publication promises an academic focus on queer thought and theory highlighting artists and writers within the community.

LOS ANGELES–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Artist K Ryan Henisey launched Queer Quarterly, an e-based publication and website, with a call for LGBTQIA artists and writers. Submissions for art, essays, and more are available online with no cost for review.

“The magazine is about queer experience and I want it to reflect queer peoples,” insists Henisey. “Queer Quarterly is a place to explore queer thought, art, and theory made by LGBTQ thinkers and creators.”

Henisey is no stranger to place-making. As head of the artist cooperative TAG Gallery, Henisey created scholarships for artists, overhauled the gallery’s annual programming, and instituted experiential changes across the organization’s brand.

“What we’ve accomplished under Ryan’s leadership is especially inspiring,” adds TAG artist and Vice President Scott Lewallen, aka Sküt. “But his real accomplishments are in the artists’ community he’s shaped at TAG. Ryan also increased our gay and lesbian membership from two to twenty-five percent, paving a way for other LGBTQ artists.” Lewallen, co-founder of Grindr and seasoned experience-designer and creative director, debuts new art at TAG April 2021.

“It takes a team to make magic happen,” responds Henisey, “and a team focused on LGBTQIA experiences is exactly what Queer Quarterly is going to create.”

Henisey explains the e-magazine will be built through grassroots collaborative efforts, collecting the best in queer art and thought. Electronic issues will publish without cost to readers, syndicating across Henisey’s websites between issues.

“And as the magazine grows,” Henisey continues, “we plan to give back to all levels of contributors. As we build revenue generators, Queer Quarterly will eventually grow to a platform that pays artists for their work.”

Submission deadlines and requirements for Queer Quarterly are available on the magazine’s website.
