Synergi CEO Jim Brown and Co-Founder Tim Norwood Honored With 2023 Francis Marion Medallion Award for Contributions to Community

FLORENCE, S.C.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Synergi is proud to announce Jim Brown and Tim Norwood, two of Synergi’s founders, were honored Monday with the Marion Medallion award for their contributions and service to the people of the Florence and Pee Dee region of South Carolina. Brown currently serves as Synergi’s CEO and Norwood served as the Executive Vice President of Synergi prior to his retirement in February.

The Marion Medallion is sponsored through a joint effort of Francis Marion University and Morning News of Florence. The Marion Medallions are awarded each year on or about February 27, which is Francis Marion Day in South Carolina. Francis Marion was a revolutionary war leader in the Pee Dee Region and the namesake of the University.

Morning News of Florence highlighted the numerous contributions the two men have made in the Pee Dee area. From revitalizing the downtown Florence area, to founding numerous businesses and employing many local people, the former college roommates have always made giving a way of life and business.

Brown and Norwood, lifelong residents of the Pee Dee region, credit their spirit of giving and community involvement to their parents. They also infuse this into their businesses through annual employee led fundraisers to raise money for local charities.

“Being recognized with the Marion Medallion is an honor I never anticipated,” said Brown. “I learned from my mother at an early age the opportunity education can provide for people to improve their lives, and my dad taught me business. Giving back, whether through employment, donation or service, has always been important to me,” added Brown.

Norwood echoes a similar sentiment. “I was taught to leave the place better than I found it; leave the world better,” said Norwood. “I think the spirit of volunteerism is what keeps our community growing, and I am proud to be a part of it,” he added.

This is not the first time the two have been recognized for community involvement. Norwood served as president of the Chamber of Commerce twice, and Brown was named Greater Florence 2021 Businessperson of the Year.

The Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce President Mike Miller said Brown and Norwood have been keys to downtown Florence’s renaissance. “Jim Brown, Tim Norwood and their organizations have really contributed to supporting the downtown area,” said Miller.
