Check City Awards the 2023 Richard Rawle Memorial Scholarship

SALT LAKE CITY–(BUSINESS WIRE)–This year is Check City’s third year offering the Richard Rawle Memorial Scholarship to students who show an exceptional drive to get involved in their community. The scholarship’s name pays tribute to Richard Rawle, the founder of Check City and received over 200 applicants this year.

Both the Rawle family and Check City firmly believe that education plays a crucial role in the prosperity of communities. By awarding this scholarship, deserving students can receive financial support for their education, empowering them to continue uplifting and contributing to their communities.

This year’s Richard Rawle Memorial Scholarship winner is Sojung Bok!

Sojung Bok is a member of the Utah State Board of Education Student Advisory Council and worked to pass a bill that now provides free period products in school restrooms. She’s now writing recommendations for the Board of Education on how to create better mental health training for educators in her district.

She also planned and orchestrated the Washington County Flea Market Fundraiser after learning that a third of her town suffered from food insecurity. All the proceeds of the flea market went to the Southern Utah branch of the Utah Food Bank to help families in her area.

She’s also connected with the world at large by teaching English to a student in Ukraine who wishes to one day study abroad.

Sojung Bok is a shining example of what it means to be self-motivated in your community service and figure out a way to help whenever you see a problem. We are proud to offer her this scholarship this year and look forward to her community efforts to come.
