Burke sentenced to 2 years, $2 million

Former Chicago Alderman Ed Burke was sentenced to prison on corruption charges Monday. The judge gave the 80-year-old a two-year sentence and $2 million dollar fine.

Federal prosecutors said Burke corruptly sought to steer tax-appeals work to his private law firm by pressuring developers of the Old Post Office, the owner of a Binny’s Beverage Depot, and a Burger King in his district.

Pretrial dashboard unveiled

The Office of Statewide Pretrial Services unveiled a new interactive pretrial data dashboard Monday that provides a summary of several initial decision points for criminal cases filed since the implementation of the Pretrial Fairness Act on Sept. 18, 2023.

The dashboard provides data on the 75 counties in which the office provides pretrial services.

IRONMAN coming to Rockford

The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, local officials and IRONMAN leadership announced that Rockford will host the IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon beginning next year through 2027.

Supported by a $800,000 grant to the Rockford Area Convention & Visitors Bureau as part of the state’s $15 million Tourism Incentive Grant Program, this is the first time the IRONMAN will be held in Illinois.

The race is expected to draw in nearly 3,000 athletes and 15,000 visitors during each race.
