Illinois quick hits: Lightfoot gives Dolton report; record tornadoes; dump truck stolen from Decatur

Lightfoot gives Dolton report

Former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot revealed the preliminary findings of her investigation into the finances of the Village of Dolton on Thursday. During a packed meeting, Lightfoot said there’s a deficit of at least $3.5 million and the village is not following state law by filing annual financial reports. She said there were tens of thousands of dollars spent on Amazon in a single day. Lightfoot also found that police overtime was being abused, with two officers nearly doubling their salaries.

Record tornadoes

Northern Illinois was hit by a record 32 tornadoes during the July 15 derecho storm that moved through the region. According to the National Weather Service, it was the most prolific tornado event to hit the Chicago area in recorded history, breaking the record for the most tornadoes reported in a single event. The storm system moved through Iowa, Illinois and Indiana.
