The Adani Guwahati Airport Is All Set To Move To A New Terminal

The Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport run by the Adani Group is all set to move to a new terminal by April 2025. The completion of the terminal was initially stated for December 2024. However, there have been certain postponements and business operations were delayed because of certain modifications that were made to the airport development plan. However, the operations are again on track and the terminal is all set to become operational by April 2025. This is a huge step taken by Adani Airlines in the airport sector. The Plans For The New Terminal:

The Adani Group has elaborate plans to make this new terminal at the Guwahati airport the most efficient terminal in the country. It will be equipped with various advanced facilities and ensure that Guwahati becomes well-connected to other regions. The Union Cabinet has already approved the leasing of the Guwahati airport for operation, management, and development to Adani Enterprises. The lease was offered for 50 years starting from August 2020. The Airport Authority of India was initially in the process of developing the new terminal of the airport.

However, after the lease was released, the authority was given to the Gujarat-based company. This has been a part of the new privatisation drive. It will help the Adani Group in ensuring that the business operations get carried out smoothly.

The Chief Airport Officer, Utpal Baruah, has recently mentioned that the master plan has been prepared for the terminal and has been shared with all the concerned facilities. During the first phase, the airport will have a brand new integrated terminal building. This is going to be almost six times larger than the present terminal. Guwahati Airport’s Presence In The Airport Sector:

The new terminal is expected to have a capacity of 13.1 million passengers per annum. The existing capacity is 3.4 million passengers per annum. Over INR 2,000 crore is being spent in this facility. Out of this amount, INR 1,600 crore is being invested in the terminal building. The remaining amount will be spent on the construction of a new taxiway and the expansion of the existing runway

Upon completing works on the parallel taxiway, the runway capacity of the airport will increase to 34 air traffic movements. Currently, it has a capacity of 18 air traffic movements. The company also has plans to install an advanced lighting system which will reduce the visibility requirement for pilots from 1300 m to 550m. During the subsequent phases, the company plans to develop maintenance, repair, and operation plans for all facilities. An aerocity and helipad will be developed along with various other allied services. This will once again give the company’s aero business an excellent boost. It will also be able to become one of the biggest airport operators.

Adani’s Visions For The Airport:

Adani Airlines has outlined four key visions for the airport. The first is to establish its connection with 16 airports in the Northeast along with the major airports of the country. The company also aims to develop the airport as an international hub for Southeast Asia. It also plans to develop a cargo market in the region. The fourth vision is to introduce air transportation for perishable goods in various regions. These visions will completely transform the operations at the airport. The Adani Group’s hold over the airport sector will also increase.
