Phoenix, Arizona Feb 9, 2022 (Issuewire.com) – The Metaverse continues to draw interest from people all over the world; The world witnessed the first-ever Meta Marriage.

Taking things digital, Ryan and Candice Hurley from Phoenix, Arizona tied the knot with their digital identities last week. What is known as the first Meta Marriage, the virtual wedding ceremony was hosted by the Decetraland and it witnessed the presence of 2,000 guests including a Supreme Court Justice officiant.

This young couple from the US hired the Rose Law Group to settle the legal formalities. Jordan Rose, the founder and president of the Rose Group claimed it to be the first-ever wedding that was hosted on blockchain-based metaverse.

A ‘meta-marriage framework’ was created with a Virtual Premarital Agreement which stated that the couple’s virtual identities and digital assets were recorded on the blockchain.

According to the group, “Because the metaverse is still in its infancy, we have developed the legal paradigm for a legally recognized marriage.”

She further added, ” We see the future of the metaverse as being truly decentralized and existing almost completely on the blockchain, so the future of marriage in the metaverse will not need to have a record of their marriage in the real world.”

Although the couple envisioned their marriage ceremony in the most advanced way, the execution went a lil off, and they met with some technical difficulties. The ecosystem of Decentraland couldn’t manage the number of guests. Along with it, all the guests claimed the NFT based gifts within 20 minutes of joining the ceremony. In addition, some guests claimed that the avatar of the bride disappeared often; some said that the bride’s avatar was dressed up in a hoodie while others said she was dressed up in a dress.

The ceremony failed to work on Decentraland and the guest reportedly headed to the law firm’s Instagram handle to witness the real-world couple exchanging the vows.

Though the US-based legal firm states that the marriage is totally legal, there are still a few law experts who are not fully cajoled with this. As per the American Marriage Ministries, people need to appear as their real selves and not their digital counterparts. Also, some believe that marriages conducted over virtual conferences aren’t legalised as the United States requires people to be at the same location to get married. The wedding ceremony had many ‘never-seen-before’ elements but it is definitely not the first instance where couples got married on blockchain. In 2021, a California based couple exchanged tokenized rings as NFTs.
