With one of the highest per capita health spending, Qatar has been establishing itself as one of the global leaders in healthcare delivery. As of 2020, Qatar has about 95 healthcare facilities including hospitals, medical centers, and diagnostic imaging centers functioning across all levels of care. Majority of the hospitals are state-run and operated by a non-profit organization known as Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC). Although currently there are only six private hospitals functioning in the country, by 2022 the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) plans to increase the number of private hospital beds by 25%. Within the HMC, only four hospitals demonstrate characteristics of tertiary care facilities. Increased investments of more than $6 Bn in healthcare in the past few years has resulted in improved life expectancy, health outcomes, and expansion of specialized services to the patients. In the next few years, Qatar’s focus will be on providing preventative care and integrated services across the country for which a detailed healthcare vision until 2033 has been proposed.
According to HospeTrack Hospital Intelligence for Qatar, the largest opportunity in the immediate term is likely to be around building new healthcare facilities as well as expanding existing facilities. This includes a medical campus, a women and children’s hospital and several specialised hospitals in the region. With respect to neonatal care, Qatar has achieved one of the highest neonatal survival rates in the GCC region. It is estimated that Qatar has over 200 NICU beds and about 90% of the NICU services are provided by the public sector. Due to the high concentration of NICU beds in the public sector, there is a long waiting period in the children’s emergency department leading to delay in admissions. To ensure that the waiting times is reduced further, new NICU beds are likely to be added to the existing infrastructure in Qatar.
Qatar has dealt with the ongoing COVID-19 crisis adequately and boasts of low mortality rates due to the pandemic. The country has been utilizing five healthcare facilities, three of which are existing and two newly built hospitals towards supporting the COVID-19 patients. In addition, about 2,900 beds including 700 new ICU beds were added towards capacity improvement to deal with the pandemic. With the country demonstrating gradual signs of recovery from the pandemic, capital medical device purchases that had been stalled are likely to pick up.
A pivot from this dataset will quantitatively demonstrate the potential for the medical devices market in the country. For instance, Qatar has more than 30 CT scanners and over 40 MRIs to ensure adequate diagnosis for patients. Such insights would enable medical equipment companies to optimize their customer segmentation and help define targeted sales and marketing strategies.
The dataset provides account-level directional estimates of total beds, ICU beds, ORs, ventilators, incubators, etc., along with Anaesthesia Machines, C-Arms, Cath Labs, PET, Nuclear, SPECT, CT, MRI scanners, Ultrasound and X-Ray machines, making it a critical source of hospital-level intelligence for medical equipment installed base in Qatar. This dataset is a valuable tool for any organization that is in the process of optimizing sales targets, estimating market potential, or building an account management plan in Qatar.
The report is a craftily designed dataset that provides a graphical summary of the health infrastructure in the country apart from an account-level view of resources, directional information on the medical device installed base, hospital demographic and care services. The report commits itself as a tool to understand, visualize, and identify opportunity pockets at the hospital level for medical devices manufacturers, and digital healthcare companies.
