Chicago apologizes to Black residents for harm of slavery
The city of Chicago issued a formal apology to Black Chicagoans for the harm that slavery caused to them and their descendants. The acknowledgment is included in an executive order signed by Mayor Brandon Johnson, creating a reparations task force to explore recommendations on ways to remedy the damage policies have harmed Blacks in the city. Johnson previously allocated $500,000 in the city budget to study the issues.
Cops hit pop star Justin Timberlake with DUI before Illinois shows
Singer Justin Timberlake, who is scheduled to perform this week in Illinois, was arrested early Tuesday and is accused of driving while intoxicated on New York’s Long Island. Timberlake is expected to be arraigned in Sag Harbor, which is located on the eastern end of Long Island. Timberlake has two upcoming shows at the United Center in Chicago on Friday and Saturday.

Two Illinois cities made the top 20 in a list of the safest and most affordable cities in the country. To compile the list, GoBankingRates looked at data from several sources, including the U.S. Census American Community Survey, FBI’s Crime Data Explorer, and the Zillow Home Value Index. Elgin took the number one spot on the list, while Joliet ranked 17th.
