Illinois quick hits: Another violent Chicago weekend; man allegedly assaults Foxx

Another violent Chicago weekend

At least 29 people have been shot, eight fatally, in Chicago since Friday evening.

According to police reports, the weekend violence included a stabbing on a CTA platform in the Loop. Five of the people shot were between 16 and 17 years old. Two of those died from their wounds.

Man allegedly assaults Foxx

Prosecutors have charged a Flossmoor man with two felonies after he allegedly threw a soft drink on Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx during an argument near her home.

William Swetz, who told police he didn’t know who Foxx was, allegedly threw the soft drink from a Big Gulp cup onto her face and drove off. He was arrested later in the day.

CWBChicago notes that people accused of far more serious attacks are routinely charged with misdemeanors in the county, including a man who stabbed a 66-year-old man five times in September 2021.

Litchfield disaster declared

The U.S. Small Business Administration has approved a disaster declaration for the severe flooding that impacted the City of Litchfield in Montgomery County on May 24th.

This disaster declaration will allow residents, condo homeowners and businesses to apply for low-interest loans for damages not covered by insurance. Heavy rains caused flash flooding in Litchfield and surrounding areas.

The declaration covers Montgomery County and the counties of Bond, Christian, Fayette, Macoupin, Madison, Sangamon and Shelby.
