Illinois quick hits: Chicago mayor in London; Trump landed in Chicago; ranked for tipping
Chicago mayor in London
Mayor Brandon Johnson and World Business Chicago are in London this week in what officials said is an effort to advance economic growth opportunities for Chicago. In 2023, trade between Chicago and the UK topped $7.6 billion, making the UK Chicago’s fourth-largest trade partner. Johnson also plans to attend the Chicago Bears game in London on Sunday.
Trump landed in Chicago
Former President Donald Trump made a stop in Chicago on Thursday afternoon after speaking in Detroit. Just hours after criticizing Detroit at the Detroit Economic Club, Trump’s plane landed at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport at around 5 p.m. It is currently unclear why the former president visited Chicago, but officials from Metra said the Presidential Motorcade has caused some disruptions for commuters.
Ranked for tipping
A new analysis shows that Illinoisans are below average tippers. Researchers at the digital platform Toast examined tipping rates from around 120,000 restaurants where tip was added to the order using a card or digital payment. Illinois diners ranked 32nd in the nation for tipping at 19%. The best tippers were in Delaware, while the worst were in California.
