Initiatives for Women and Children

Ministry of Women and Child Development in order  to promote and enable women to access education, health and financial services, has  taken initiatives  which includes various legislations such as the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, the Code on Wages, 2019, the Code on Social Security, 2020 etc. The Central Government also implements various schemes/ programmes such as Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) and Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram (JSSK), National Health Mission (NHM), Swachh Bharat Mission, Scheme for Adolescent Girls, Samagra Shiksha, Udaan, Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan (PMGDISHA), Adolescence Education Programme, Digital Gender Atlas, Stand Up India (SUPI), Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY), Skill India Mission etc.

The Scheme of ICDS operates through a network of 7075 fully operational Projects and 13.86 lakhs AWCs. The services are currently provided to 8.94 crore beneficiaries. Further, the Ministry implements the scheme of Working Women Hostel to provide safe and conveniently located accommodation for working women, with day care facility for their children, wherever possible, in urban, semi urban, and rural areas. The Ministry also implements the National Creche Scheme to provide day care facilities for children (age group of 6 months-6 years) of working mothers.
