Jay Bradshaw Wins Top Leadership Spot in Election for Executive Secretary-Treasurer of Northern California Carpenters Union

Beats 20-year incumbent at special called election of delegate body representing 22 Local Unions in the Northern California Carpenters Regional Council

OAKLAND, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Jay Bradshaw is the newly elected leader of the Northern California Carpenters Regional Council, representing more than 38,000 working men and women, carpenters and craftspeople.

Bradshaw scored a major victory this week by defeating the 20-year incumbent and head of the union, Bob Alvarado, by a vote of 155 to 123 to become the new Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the Union. Bradshaw took office this week at the headquarters of the NCCRC, located at 265 Hegenberger Road, Oakland, CA 94621.

Bradshaw, 53, previously served as Director of Organizing for the Northern California Carpenters Regional Council for 10 years, followed by 2 years as Executive Director of the 46 Counties Conference Board, prior to taking office.

Bradshaw is a proud member of Carpenters Local 22 in San Francisco and worked as a carpenter apprentice and journeyman prior to accepting a full-time position at the Union.

Bradshaw thanked Alvarado for his 20 years of service.

Bradshaw highlighted some of the union’s shared successes over the years in his victory speech, and after thanking the membership for their confidence and support, promised to take this rank-and-file driven movement to the highest chambers of power: corporate boardrooms, city halls and the state capitol.

“My first order of business will be to bring the staff and rank-and-file together to finish preparing for the upcoming negotiations.

“Our industry is constantly evolving, and we must do the same. We will mobilize for increased organizing, including the Carpenters in Action program. We will also establish mechanisms for rank-and-file inclusion and empowerment, to give members a voice at every level of the organization, ensuring accountability and success.
