Roberts named chancellor at nation’s oldest public university

(The Center Square) – Lee Roberts has been chosen chancellor, removing the interim tag, at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

In the role since Jan. 12 following Kevin Guskiewicz’ exit to be president at Michigan State, Roberts was confirmed by the UNC System Board of Governors in a Friday morning meeting. Roberts presided at graduation in May, gaining admiration and respect for handling demonstrations on campus tied to the war between Hamas and Israel just weeks prior.

Carolina is the nation’s oldest public university and flagship of the 17 campuses in the UNC System. Sixteen of those are colleges and universities; another is the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics.
