South African Tourism partners with Qatar Airways and Air Seychelles to bring the Sights, Sounds and Tastes of South Africa to India
~Tourism board to engage consumers in their largest Indian source market – Mumbai~
Bengaluru, 10th March 2022: In a bid to build aspiration for destination South Africa from their largest Indian source market Mumbai, South African Tourism is collaborating with several partners to bring the sights, sounds and tastes of South Africa alive in India. With performances by South African dance troupes, indigenous music and delectable food cooked by South African chefs at Phoenix Palladium in Mumbai, South Africa is all set to engage and delight audiences.
The two-day event that runs from 12pm to 8pm on 12th and 13th March 2022, will also host culturally immersive activities like South African face painting, hair braiding, bead work and DIY graffiti walls in addition to Oculus – a virtual reality journey into the deep blue seas and mesmerizing safari routes of South Africa.
To provide further value to consumers, the tourism board has partnered with Qatar Airways and Air Seychelles. Air Seychelles will be issuing 2 free air tickets from India to South Africa to select raffle winners, on each day of the consumer event at Phoenix Palladium. Qatar Airways will also be offering up to 10% discounts* on the purchase of Economy and Business class air tickets from India to South Africa, between 12th to 31st March 2022. The discounts will be valid for travel between 12th March to 31st October 2022. Well-timed with the easing of international travel restrictions in India, these strategic efforts are expected to increase summer outbound traffic to South Africa and contribute to the recovery of the tourism sector.
“Travel from Mumbai accounts for a whopping 48% of total travel from India to South Africa. To provide potential travellers a touch and feel of the destination and to share our heritage with a country we share deep bonds with, we are bringing South Africa to Indian shores! India features amongst the top three priority markets for us, and we are excited to explore the endless possibilities the country offers,” said Neliswa Nkani, Hub Head, MEISEA, South African Tourism.
The destination, which remains open to Indian travellers, is also processing tourist visas on priority. At present, several stop-over flights fly from India to South Africa, including Emirates, Etihad, Qatar Airways, Air Arabia, Ethiopian Airlines, Kenya Airways and Air Mauritius. Travellers from India to South Africa will be required to produce a negative PCR (polymerase chain reaction) test, not older than 72 hours from the time of departure from the country of origin to South Africa.
