West Virginia $701M above estimates in tax collections but $800M behind fiscal 2023
(The Center Square) – West Virginia’s general revenue tax and fee collections are down nearly $800 million for the first 11 months of the fiscal year but remain ahead of the state’s budgeted estimates.
The state has collected $701.1 million more than estimates for the fiscal year.
The state has collected $5.1 billion through 11 months, compared to $5.9 billion over the same period a year ago. May collections were $397.3 million compared to $473.8 million in May 2023.
“Those revenues aren’t just numbers,” Gov. Jim Justice said. “They are absolutely really action that are happening across this great state, all the time.”
West Virginia collected $164.3 million in consumer sales and use tax in May, above the $155 million collected in May 2023 and $34.4 million above the estimates.
