Wisconsin sending $32M in federal funds to 56 bike path, sidewalk projects
(The Center Square) – Wisconsin is directing $32 million in federal funds toward 56 projects across the state that include bike paths, walking trails, pedestrian and bike path planning and safe routes to school.
The largest recipients include $1.8 million for a protected bike land along 2nd Street in Milwaukee, nearly $1.8 million for a multi-use path along Puetz Road in Milwaukee, $1.7 million for sidewalk in-fill or new sidewalks near Fort Atkinson schools, $1.4 million for a multi-use trail in Rice Lake, nearly $1.4 million for a 1.1-mile bike and pedestrian trail in Arbor Vitae, $1.2 million for a shared-use path in Watertown, $1.2 million for a multi-use trail bridge over Duck Creek in Howard and $1 million for three miles of Walking Iron Trail in Dane County.
Waupaca will receive nearly $973,000 for the construction of an ADA-compliant pedestrian access bridge, replacing a 50-year-old footbridge that has been closed to the public since 2010.
The projects are part of the four-year Transportation Alternatives Program funded through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law with funding going to non-motorized transportation options.
The Frederic School District will receive more than $817,00 to install a pedestrian-bicycle path that will connect the district’s elementary and grade 6-12 schools.
